The Department of Chinese Language and Literature offers a variety of courses ranging from classical to modern literature. To cope with the needs of the community, courses are categorised into two types: basic and specialty.
Our programme aims at training students to master the characteristics of Chinese language and literature, and to understand its development. In addition, our students are well-trained to equip with abilities in literary appreciation, criticism, and writing.

The Division of Chinese Language and Literature offers PhD, MPhil and MA programmes. We have more than 40 students enrolled in research PhD and MPhil programmes and almost 160 students enrolled in MA taught programme.
All courses offered are taught by teachers of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature.
The following elective Chinese Language Proficiency Courses offered by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. We are designed to enhance students' Chinese Language Proficiency. Major and Minor students of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature may take some of these courses, but the courses and units taken shall not count towards the requirements of their Major and Minor Programmes. All are term courses of 3 units. Students attend 2 lectures and 1 tutorial weekly.
