内容簡介:

This paper examines lexical and phonological correspondences between Old Chinese and Lepcha, drawing on primary fieldwork data collected by myself. Lepcha, also known as Róng, is a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by the Lepcha people in Sikkim, India, as well as in parts of West Bengal, Nepal, and Bhutan. After providing an overview of the sociolinguistic profile of Lepcha and a critical survey of previous scholarship, I present the results of a detailed phonetic and phonological analysis of newly documented Lepcha materials collected in Bhutan. The analysis highlights the structural composition of syllables, with particular attention to medial glides, vowel categories, and coda consonants, together with the distribution and function of prefixes and suffixes in Lepcha morphology. This study underscores the methodological value of integrating synchronic fieldwork with diachronic reconstruction and emphasizes the significance of minority language documentation for advancing the historical-comparative study of major classical languages.
