讲座简介：

This talk explores the historical contact between Be and other ethnic groups of Guangdong/Guangxi and adjacent areas in Hainan island and Northern Vietnam. Discussions focus on the chain-shifted sound changes that can be taken as areal features shared by Be, Vietnamese, and Hainanese. Relevant development in other languages of the area including Cantonese, Hlai and Yao will be noted. Based on the discussed sound changes and some unique vocabulary items shared between Be and the Vieto-Katuic groups (where Vietnamese belongs), the early settlement of the Be before Hainan is hypothesized to be in Guangxi/Northern Vietnam bordering areas.
